Forbear! Theatre presents The Grand Duke

Joanna is delighted to be part of this dynamic production with Forbear! Theatre.  The Barons Court Theatre is a charming, intimate venue under The Curtains Up Pub, and production team Rachel Middle (director) and William Remmers (musical director) always put together an original, entertaining show.

"A team of nine brave individuals are to present ‘The Grand Duke’ in the Barons Court Theatre, West London, this January.  We will transport you to sunny Bavaria where the beer flows freely, the men wear leather shorts, and the sausage rolls are simply the wurst.  Ernest Dummkopf’s theatrical troupe are preparing to overthrow the miserly Grand Duke, but run into more political problems than they expected.  This opera is often neglected by Gilbert and Sullivan fans and is rarely attempted by professional companies, but its particular breed of silliness combined with some of Gilbert’s more developed characters and a sparkling score by Sullivan makes it a favourite of many G&S performers.  Forbear! Theatre approach the operas in a very organic way in order to get the most out of the text and the music.  Our unique blend of opera singers, musical theatre performers, actors and comedians will make this production one not to be missed."

Monday 15th-Saturday 27th January 2018 (no performance Sunday 21st), 7.30pm.  Barons Court Theatre.  Ticket information and links available here.

The Pirates of Penzance in Concert

Joanna is delighted to be playing the role of Kate in The Pirates of Penzance in Concert with Welsh Musical Theatre Orchestra alongside an exciting principal cast.

This Gilbert and Sullivan classic is brought to life in a concert version with a twist, from the orchestra that brought you The Mikado in Concert last year. After Frederic falls in love with Mabel, it is not just his sense of duty to the band of pirates that gets in his way, but also an orchestra that insists on being a naughty disruption throughout. Conducted by Andrew Hopkins, this concert features a sensational West End cast and guarantees an evening full of laughs.

When: Sunday 6th November, 7pm

Where: Congress Theatre, 50 Gwent Square, Cwmbran NP44 1PL

Utopia, Limited

Joanna will be playing the role of Princess Kalyba in Savoynet's production of Utopia, Limited at the Royal Hall in Harrogate.  The production is part of the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival 2016, and tickets can be booked from 16th March by following this link.

Utopia, Limited is one of Gilbert and Sullivan's lesser-known and lesser-performed collaborations, so this is a rare opportunity to see a fully-staged production of the work.  The opera is about the island of Utopia, whose King and his daughter (Princess Zara) import six men (the 'Flowers of Progress') to remodel the country on English principles.

The Princesses Nekaya and Kalyba are twin Utopian princesses, who are brought up to be prim and proper English young ladies but soon find out that there is a lot more to enjoy about the English way of life than their governess, Lady Sophy, would have them believe.

WNO Youth Opera Production 2016

Joanna will be performing in the chorus of Kommilitonen!, which is WNO’s Youth Opera production for 2016. It is a contemporary opera for young people about young people, by composer Peter Maxwell Davies and with a libretto by David Pountney.

The opera, which has 28 scenes, intertwines three stories of student revolution in the 20th century - the Chinese Cultural Revolution; the Civil Rights Movement in the USA; and the White Rose movement in Germany during WWII. The three stories come together at the end of the opera, locating the action between the present and the past, and evoking the tyranny of the three historic political systems that the opera explores.

Kommilitonen! will be a promenade performance to be staged at Memo Arts Centre in Barry between 27 - 30 July 2016.

See WNO's website for more information.
